FAQ

Every day, people from Pox are approached and asked various questions about the guild. We’ve tried to summarize them here so we can cut down on how much time we spend explaining this sort of stuff! If you have any extra questions though, feel free to contact us via in-game mail, our forums, or at our @wearepox.com e-mail addresses.

What does Pox stand for?
Pox is not an acronym, it is a word and our name. When we were trying to originally decide upon a name for the guild, the phrase “We are a Pox upon the Alliance” stuck out. From that, we took our name. Originally, we would have been <The Pox>, but <Pox> just looked cooler.

I recognize your guild name! Weren’t you guys…
We get this a lot. We’ve been around more than three years, and have quite a few members. But also, about a year after creating Pox, another set of Hordies made a guild named Nox. We were here first, and we outlasted them too. Then there’s Pax, who created before or around the same time as us. We are not Pax nor affiliated with Pax. Pax is Latin for peace, and I can assure you that is not Pox’ goal ;)

So you guys are RPers?
Many to most of us. While we are an RP guild we have welcomed non-RPers into the guild. Many of them enjoy watching RPers rather than participate, are shy, or are uncomfortable with their own talent at weaving stories. We ask that anyone in Pox who does not want to actively RP at least be able to RP during guild events and be helpful and considerate to other RPers. We insist that members of Pox be respectful of the environment around them, which is supposed to be a role-play one – we do not emote, say, or yell out of character things.

Doesn’t having non-RPers in the guild defeat the purpose of being an RP guild?
Does buying an illiterate person a book defeat the purpose of the book? Of course not. Our goal is to encourage everyone to role-play and imagine a world that is separate from our own. Any non-RPer joining Pox has to have some sort of interest in RP; why else would they join? If we bring them out of their RP closet once a month, we’re encouraging what Shadow Council is supposed to be.

Why don’t you guys run an event?
I value my sanity and I believe my officers do as well. Running events and gaining membership is difficult. Pox does actively support those who do run consistent events, making sizable gold donations to help keep things running without the characters who run it needing to decimate their private funds. We also do occasionally hold guild events, which we deliberately hold in public areas so any by-standers can become involved. If we see people lurking on the edges we try to drag them into it.

Why don’t you guys RP all the time?
RP is like your favourite food. Chocolate, pizza, paella – whatever. Eat it all the time and you’re soon sick of it.

Do you guys RP in guild chat?
Generally, no. We prefer to RP face to face. On occasion there will be some RP going on in guild chat, and that is RP generally associated with the Sunwalker Estates. It used to happen a lot more than it does now.

LOL. RPers raiding? LOLOL?
What about it? Blizzard has created a very enjoyable game, and we insist on experiencing as much of the game as possible. Though not all of our membership raids, or RPs, there’s no reason why both are mutally exclusive. We don’t RP during raid, as we want to clear through as much as we can during the time we have, though, so don’t worry about that!

Separating IC/OOC
Keeping IC separate from OOC is something that we believe is important. We’ve booted people from Pox who have shown an inability to do so. Nothing like having someone freak on you for trying to steal their in-character boyfriend >_<

What classes/races do you need?
We don’t “require” anything except good players who like to RP and have fun. During raids, certain classes are more in demand, and raid teams will be built around what is best for the team. Otherwise, you could be a murloc for all we care. In fact…we have a troll who thinks she IS a murloc…

How do I join? Advance?
All members of Pox are recruited into the “general troops,” those that are given room & board, armor and weapons, but no monetary pay. They live in the barracks. Through RP and participation, these general troops can distinguish themselves, which brings them to the attention of their superiors, who then bring them to the attention of the guild leader, the Bringer. She then sets them a Test, and if the person passes/survives the Test, she will welcome them into the inner echelons of Pox.

Basically, what this means on an OOC level is that we do not need to rely on an IC interview to get you into Pox. Everyone is taken in as a general intake. Those who show potential are given a test, which is how people rise from Untested to Tested. Those who are Tested and above are considered to be the Bringer’s inner circle. From a roleplay standpoint, there are hundreds of general troops.

All members will need to fill in a ‘recruitment record,’ which can be found on the forums.
