It was the middle of winter in The Eastern Kingdoms. Just south of Silvermoon, the sun was shining on the snow; a glare was casting light on the leg of the young women standing under a tree. She was staring at the ruins jutting out of the snow just south of her. As she stared a single tear slowly rolled down her cheek, she brushed it away and looked around. The shadows of the past were almost gone; the scar was the only reminder of what had happened. It was a pity that such beauty had been destroyed; she wished more of it could have been saved. There was once a mighty city, flourishing in life and beauty; it made her sad to see that part of her home had almost been destroyed.
It had been many years since she last had seen her childhood home. After the battle with the Scourge she had been one of the unlucky to not make it back. Instead she was put under the control of the Scourge; for many years they used her to carry out their dirty work; killing, torturing innocent people and destroying many areas like her home. When she had finally gained control over herself from the Scourge, she was surprised to find that many things had changed. It had taken a long time for her to become herself once again, it felt good to be back. As she was gazing over the scar; she felt a tap on her shoulder, she turned around and smiled. It was Zurruk, her old friend, he had found her as she was wandering Northrend; confused and disoriented. He had been the one to tell her what had happened while she was lost to the Scourge.
“Mhera. It’s time to go.” As he said this there was a sad look in his eyes, it pained him to see her completely hopeless. There had been a time before the Scourge attack she would have laughed at the idea of someone going against the High Elves here at a place such as Silvermoon.
“Alright Zur, let’s go back.” As she turned to go, something caught her eye. It was a few of the Scourge walking in the scar. “What are they doing here?” A sudden flash of anger leaped across her face.
“The Scourge seem to be almost everywhere now, like an infestation, or a rash that keeps coming back no matter what you do. They invaded from the Ghostlands; they wander the scar, too stupid to go anywhere else.” As he said this Zurruk spat on the ground disgusted at the idea of Scourge wandering so close to his friends’ home.
“Common Zur, let’s head back. Sobani should be waiting for us.” As she said this she laid a hand on his arm and gave it a gentle squeeze to calm him down; he looked at her and saw she was also angered by this, but they both knew it was not the time to pick a fight.
As they walked back she could not help but look around at what had been destroyed, it pained her to think that her city, her home could have been wiped out during the battle; but one day the scourge would pay.
As Mhera and Zurruk were walking back, Mhera wondered what it was going to be like; meeting her younger sister after so long. She had trained as a child alongside their father to become a Mage; she had wanted to become the best. But when the siege had begun Mhera had gone off with the other fighters to defend their home, the last Mhera had seen of her little sister she, running towards one of the Northeastern towers. Zurruk hadn’t told her what had happened to her, only that Sobani was waiting for them at the gates to Silvermoon.
It was almost evening when Mhera caught sight of her former home.“Zur! I can see it!” she yelled excitedly and began to run a little ahead. Zurruk smiled to himself, she looked like a child waking up to see gifts on Christmas. “Slow down Mhera! We’re almost there. Calm down I know you’re excited, but compose yourself. You’re a Death Knight a former hero. Now act like one!”
Mhera stopped running and looked back at Zur and laughed “Haha! Alright, I can’t help it I’m a little excited!” She waited for him to catch up and they walked together. As the city came into view she started to look around for Sobani. As she was looking Zurruk stared to walk past the gates. “Zur where are we going?” she asked with a confused look on her face. “Oh Sobani doesn’t actually live here in the city of Silvermoon.” He replied while looking at a note he held in his hand. “It’s this way, just past the gate. She lives right over there, at the moment anyway.”
As Mhera looked where he pointed she saw a couple dozen covered wagons with bright colored flags flying and a few animals running around, while people where practicing magic on targets. “This is where she lives?” as she said this she looked around in amazement she had never seen so much color that wasn’t at a festival. As she was looking around a girl that appeared to be about 19 years of age, was running towards them with a smile on her face. “Zurruk! You guys made it!” as she finished saying this she arrived in front of them breathing hard, in between breaths she said “Mhera? Is that you?”
Mhera stared at the girl in front of her and studied her. She was a little shorter then she was; she had green eyes, and light brown hair. She looked somehow familiar “Sobani?” it was her little sister. Mhera reached out and embraced her, she held her close for a minute and asked “Sob what happened?” As they pulled apart Sobani began to explain. “After the war with the Scourge, part of the city was destroyed our family had seemed to just fall apart, father and mother left for a new home. You had been taken by the Scourge. I didn’t know what to do. So after a few months I found a teacher and once again started to study to be a great Mage. My teacher travels around The Eastern Kingdoms, teaching magic to those that want to learn.” Here she paused and looked around her “These people have become my family, I don’t have to be scared or worried that something will happen anymore. With them where ever I lay my head, for no matter how short it is. I can call it home. But I’ glad your back Mhera, I missed you!” here she hugged her sister once again and said “Come with me I’ll take you to my wagon you can stay here with me until you decided what you want to do.”
Later that night as Mhera was falling asleep she wondered what her new life had in store for her. Now that she was free there was so much she could do. “I wonder will Zurruk want to go with me. Sobani as well? I’ll ask them in the morning.” She soon fell asleep dreaming of her new life, the life that was once again hers.
